Dax's story

This pregnancy was a tough one...unlike any other. I had cramps almost my whole pregnancy which made it hard to exercise. I had contractions  starting at 3 weeks before my due date. Went into the hospital 2 times thinking it might be labor and was sent home even though my contractions were 2-3 minutes apart. At 36 weeks, I was dilated to a 2 and 50% effaced. Then at 37 weeks, dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced. I was in so much pain I could barely walk.  My siatic nerve was really bad too.  But at 39 weeks, Feb. 16, Thursday, I was induced. Wahoo! The labor wasn't too bad. I went it around 9:30, was hooked up to patocin around 10:30, got my epidural at 11:30. I was basically waiting for someone to come and break my water because once they break my water I go really fast. Someone came  and broke my water at 1. Once my water was broke, I went from a 4-5 cm in about an hour, then a 5-6 cm the next hour and then 6-10 cm in 45 minutes.  From there I was just waiting for my doctor to show up. My nurse wanted me to do a practice push and realized that was not a good idea because with all of my others it take 2 pushes and they are out. So my doctor showed up and I pushed once, and then began to push again when the doctor said STOP. The next thing I knew, blood squirted on me and my mom and Dax was out. The cord was wrapped around Dax's neck 2 times and when I was pushing the cord was chocking him so the doctor had to think fast and cut the cord  and that was what the blood was. It was scary! Dax came out blue! Jake told the kids that he came out blue because he is a BYU fan. :) Dax was born around 3:45pm weighed 7.4 lbs and 19.75 inches long. He had LOTS of dark hair.  Dax had red blood spots in the whites of his eyes because of the strain of the cord around his neck.

Because of RSV and pertussis, the kids weren't allowed to see Dax in the hospital.
 Meet your new baby brother.

Brooks loves this little guy so much and is such a good helper.
Dylan was so excited to give this little bear that he got from his Kindergarten teacher for Valentines day. When Dax was 2 days old, he was holding hi and said in a cute voice," So have you made any new baby friends lately?" and Dylan was in shock that Dax didn't have any teeth and kept talking about it.
Ryann was so cute and kept saying how cute Dax was. It took her about 30 minutes before she realized that Dax wasn't IN my tummy anymore. Then, she kept saying," Dax is out of your tummy Mom."

Dylan told me to take a picture of him pretending to be asleep.
Then of course Ryann wanted to do the same.

I love all of those pictures! I really couldn't tell that Dax was blue at all except for the picture where he was right up against you....it sure went away fast too! He is so adorable. I wish I could have been there when you guys brought him home. Mom even told me about how special it was.
I'm just glad he is here!!!!! And I just can't get over how strong he is! Can't wait to see him again.
